How Can I Make My Computer Run Faster?
Selasa, 07 Oktober 2008
As we grow old, and as I realise that inevitably, I shall pile on the years and age shall catch up to me, I realise I am not as fast as I was when I was a teenager, nor am I flexible, nor did I remember having those aches and pains as before. I like to apply this logic to anyone who has ever owned a desktop or laptop computer. - it was fast, furious and a cutting edge machine the day you bought it; but now as dog years is to computer years, few short months down the road, it has become old, irritable and constantly complaining of such gobbledegook as runtime errors and blue screen messages that prelude a suddenly all familiar crash. How can I make my computer run faster, I asked myself often and looking at myself, I feel the answers are obvious.

Clutter. I liken it to fat deposits that seem to appear magically after a good week's meal. After a few months of installing and uninstalling programs, some of them junk and fast fixes to a digital diet, a quick craving for something that catches our eye on a download link - we leave traces of their existence, even when we try our best to uninstall them. Free floating files, temp files and unused DLL's are just some of the clutter that they can leave behind. They choke the arteries and tubes of your Windows OS and cause it to wheeze and blither at every turn. Time to give it a crash diet. Remove programs you are not using, delete those that are eating a lot of memory and customise your start ups so that a minimum amount of programs are loaded at any one time.

Viruses and malware. When we get sick, we aren't exactly at the top of our game. Computers get sick as well, and there are a host of pandemics that are floating around cyberspace just waiting for their moment to get their claws on your computer. They eat away at your memory, install bogus programs, launch background applications, send emails, steal your passwords - all at the cost of some serious performance. Once they get into the ram sectors of your drive and start fiddling around with crucial DLL's and virtual memory banks - you will either get a slow or dead computer. Go to the doctor and get an antivirus program that reveals to you these viruses and worms you didn't know you had in your computer. Clearing them out will do you a world of good and speed things up pronto.

Your registry. It is the brain of your computer. And I wouldn't be the first to say the brain is the most important part of our body. The registry can be rife with missing shared DLL's, unused file extensions, active X issues, obsolete software, bad registry values - all caused by bad program installs or members of the malware and virus families leaving their footprints all over the nerve cells of your registry. Get a good registry optimiser and cleaner, they have the delicate hands antivirus programs do not to fix a rampant problem in all slow PC’s.

These are the ways you can make your computer run faster, and there are many more issues you and know one else knows about. It's a start, a good one, to gaining back some speed in your machine. (by Logan Albright )

Optimize Vista 1
Minggu, 13 April 2008

vistaMany Vista users have faced slow Internet connection problems, and the cause is most probably by unsupported hardware or ISP itself. To counter this problem, you need to optimize your Vista for better compatibility and speed. I will show you 6 ways to repair your connection:

Method #1 - Disable TCP Auto Tuning.
Vista is intelligent enough to be constantly automatic adjust Its’ TCP configuration for maximum throughput, however, this advanced feature has introduced too many overheads for some unsupported hardware, some time you should manually configure the TCP settings with SG TCP Optimzer and disable Vista TCP Auto Tuning.

Method #2 - Install web accelerator.
You can try Google Web Accelearator or other commercial web accelerators such as Nitro or OnSpeed. Web Accelerator is basically a web proxy with server site compression. It will create a tunneling connection between your computer and the web server, compress every item before sending to you, hence improves the surfing speed.

Method #3 - Use static IP.
This method doesn’t improve your speed, but it will speed up the time takes by your computer to establish a connection to the router.

Method #4 - Use OpenDSN.
You ISP DNS server might not response fast enough, try OPENDNS to improve your Internet web site response.

Method #5 - Increases DNS Cache.
You need to know the DNS registry before you can increase the cache. What this does is caching every query you make to the DNS server, so next time when you revisit the web site, the response will be instantly . Therefore, the more web site you cache, the faster when you revisit them.

Method #6 - Disable IPv6 and other protocol.
You should disable all unused protocol, do not let the extra overheads slow down your Windows.

To learn more about the detail tuning, please download a copy of "Unleash Vista Power Express Guide" and register for a 3 day mini-course.

Do You Need Bluetooth?
Rabu, 26 Desember 2007

bluetoothWhen buying any digital electronic device, whether a cellphone, PDA, or notebook computer, it is important to check the specifications to ensure that it will serve your purposes.Bluetooth is becoming an increasingly popular offering in personal electronics, but do you need it?

What Is Bluetooth?

Bluetooth is a wireless PAN (Personal AreaNetwork) transmission protocol standard. In layman’s terms, Bluetooth is a technology that enables a device to communicate and share data with other Bluetooth capable devices - cellphones, headsets, PDAs, notebook computers, desktop PCs, computer peripherals, printers, cameras, and others - through radio wave transmission (so there is no need for wires) at a range of around 1, 10, or 100 meters, depending on the class of your Bluetooth device (Class 1 has the longest range and Class 3 the shortest).

If a device has a Bluetooth chip, it can communicate with other devices that have a Bluetooth chip. Users can share pictures, movies, datasheets, documents, and all sorts of information among them as long as their devices are in range (they do not need to be in direct line of sight). For instance, a Bluetooth-capable digital camera can communicate with a Bluetooth-capable printer for direct printing. Likewise, a Bluetooth-capable cellphone can be connected to a Bluetooth-equipped headset so that a person can take and make hands-free telephone calls.

Bluetooth can be used for internet connectivity as long as a Bluetooth-enabled computer is in range of a Bluetooth modem. Bluetooth devices can also form a smallwireless network (called a piconet) of up to 8 devices. For security, devices can be paired and transmissions encrypted. So that it causes only minimal interference, Bluetooth periodically changes frequency channels.

Bluetooth uses the same radio frequency that 802.11 Wireless Networking does, but it is much simpler than 802.11technology, negating the need for complex network configurations. Bluetooth also has lower power consumption, making it more economical, though its range is shorter.

You Need Bluetooth

If you wish to have an extremely basic home network, Bluetooth is for you. There are no wires to trip you and there are no complex configurations like network permissions or addresses to deal with. Piconets are temporary, so a new device can immediately join or leave a Bluetooth network with nothing more than a simple device discovery. It is important to note, however, that piconets are no substitution for a traditional home network (whether through Ethernet or 802.11 Wireless), which are much more reliable and offer much more full-bodied security options.

If you have a notebook computer, there is a good chance you will want to have Bluetooth connectivity so that you can take advantage of the many Bluetooth-equipped peripherals, thereby eliminating the need for bulky wires. You can also easily synchronize data between your handheld devices and your notebook computer. Moreover, if you are fond of sharing data with other handheld device users, you definitely need to have Bluetooth for easy and convenient data sharing.

You Don’t Need Bluetooth

It is important to note that Bluetooth can present a security risk if you store sensitive information on your Bluetooth-enabled device. If you are traveling with sensitive information on your computer, cell-phone, or PDA, it is wise to disable Bluetooth temporarily to prevent data theft or exploitation. Please also note that some corporations and government entities disapprove of Bluetooth and similar convenience-based additions, so please check with your employer if you intend to use your Bluetooth-enabled notebook for business.

upsGenerally UPS systems are purchased because there is a requirement to protect the client’s essential supplies in the event of a power failure or brownout. Having bought the system however, little consideration is given as to how it will continue to operate over the years. The idea of plug and play conceals the fact that uninterruptible power supplies are highly technical equipment consisting of thousands of sensitive components.

The new uninterruptible power supply system will always come with a manufacturer’s warranty, which would be perceived to offer protection in the event of a failure during the first year.

What is not considered is that although the manufacturer has agreed to guarantee his equipment against failure, it will be repaired during normal working hours and certainly no earlier than the next day, often several days later dependent of the availability of engineers and parts. During this time, of course, the essential load is unprotected,

No UPS = No Protection.

A UPS maintenance contract will offer peace of mind to the client, as not only will the contract offer an agreed response time for an engineer to attend site, it will also ensure that the UPS is inspected and the results recorded on a regular basis. This can be arranged during an agreed operating window of time, which can be tailored to suit the client’s operating requirements, together with emergency 24-7 call out.

The UPS system has a number of components which have a finite operating life, the ones that immediately spring to mind are; fans, batteries, dc and ac capacitors. A failure of any of these components can severely limit the Uninterruptible Power Supply’s capacity to protect the essential load.

Regular maintenance will monitor these components and highlight any potential failures, normally in time to take action to replace them and maintain the integrity of the system.

A typical instance on a non-maintained Power Protection system would be that during a utility mains failure that the batteries failed to support the essential load for the expected time. The client would require immediate replacement of his batteries to regain his perceived autonomy; the unanswered question would be ’why did the batteries fail so early in their operational life?’

Without regularly maintaining and thermal monitoring the UPS and its UPS Batteries its operation it may have been that a failure of one or all the dc capacitors had prematurely aged the batteries causing a severe reduction in their capacity to support load. Regular UPS maintenance visits would have identified this problem early and by changing the offending components the expense of prematurely replacing the batteries would have been avoided.

Of course if a UPS system is present, then the next step is to ask yourself, what if it fails do I have a generator standby power system?

If there isn’t a standby diesel generator is that due to lack of space? Or assumed cost? Unsure?

Better to ask for a FREE site survey and establish what power protection you may require before your Critical Systems are tested by power failure.

hard driveYour harddrive is an extremely vital part of your PC because it is the part that manages your vital files such as photos of your family, friends and account info. Therefore when your harddrive packs in, it can be a grave setback. You could possibly believe your files are gone forever, nevertheless the reality is, and it could possibly be possible for you to rescue your files in many situations.

Hard drive data recovery will work on virtually any type of harddrive. Your harddrive could possibly not be running right if you hear it clicking or making noises. That could possibly be a warning that a crash is on the way. Aged harddrives occasionally simply die, power surges occasionally do damage. If your drive platters are damaged then you can lose vital files. You could possibly be able to utilize a harddrive software recovery program to retrieve your files or you may have to take your PC return the shop and let a technician fix it on your behalf.

Hard drive data recovery may be carried out on any size of harddrive whether it is a small drive of only a few gigs or bigger hard disks of hundreds of GB. The GB of the hard drive does not make a difference and neither does the operating system. Hard drive data recovery will work on PCs that run Windows as much as Macs and drives with FAT32 format.

Hard drive data recovery will help one restore lost files or files that had been unintentionally deleted, even if you have emptied your recycle bin. The recovery process includes examination your hard drive logs to find out what is on your harddrive now and what was there before. The recovery can furthermore refurbish your RAID configurations one could possibly have if one uses multiple drives. If a hard drive crashes the RAID configuration will try to retrieve the files but if the RAID configuration itself fails, then one may almost certainly need to return your PC to the repair shop to have the drives recovered by a capable repairman.

Although it could possibly be a enormous inconvenience when your harddrive gives up whether it is due to hardware failure or due to outside damage or a virus, it is nice to know there is a very good chance that one will be able to recover the vital files you first believed to be gone for ever. Hard drive data recovery can work on most kinds and capacities of drives and with all OS. (by Miah O Connell)

Hot Tips For Keeping Your Computer Cool
Kamis, 02 Agustus 2007
A computer's worst enemy is heat. Too much heat can cause hard drives to fail prematurely and entire systems to become slower and less stable. A hot day can combined with inadequate or malfunctioning cooling inside a PC can, in fact, spell the end of a computer altogether.

But there are steps you can take to keep your PC cool enough in a heatwave. By paying attention to how much heat stress your PC may be under, you'll not only extends its lifespan but enjoy more trouble-free computing during the time you own it.

Danger signs. How can you tell if your PC is suffering from heat-related stress? The best way is to take its temperature directly. Because overheating is a fairly common concern among system manufactures today, many PC's provide temperature readings either through the BIOS or through system software. Occasionally temperatures for a CPU - the main processor in your computer will rise higher than 60'C, but usually such temperatures should not normal. If they are, your computer will likely slow down, as performance throttling safeguards kick in, or become unstable.

Keeping it cool. There are plenty of steps your can take to keep your PC cool. Firstly open up your PC from time to time to make sure all internal fans are operating. Open the case while your computer turn off. When the case is open, turn the computer back on and make sure that all internal fans spin up and operate consistently. You should see two or three internal fans in your average computer usually one fan is over the central processor. Try to locate your PC in a cool room or a cool place. (by Sazali)
